Common questions

My miles aren't moving my marker

Hike 2650 reads walking and running distance from Apple Health. Check that:

There is no button to press. When new miles arrive, the marker walks them on its own.

How long does the whole trail take?

It depends on how much you walk. At 5 miles a day, border to border takes about a year and a half, like a real journey. One real mile is always one trail mile.

Can I walk it southbound?

Yes. The app asks which way you're going when you start a trail. You can turn around later in the Ranger Station under Direction. You keep your miles and your days.

Is my progress backed up? What about a new phone?

Hike 2650 has no accounts and no cloud sync. Your journey is saved on your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes it. Restoring a full iPhone backup that includes the app usually brings your journey back with it.

How do I add the widget?

Touch and hold your Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Hike 2650. It shows your mile and the next place on the trail. Open the app once after adding it so it has something to show.

How do arrival alerts work?

If you turn them on, your iPhone tells you when your walking has carried you to the next place on the trail, even when the app is closed. You can turn them on or off in the Ranger Station, or in iOS Settings › Notifications › Hike 2650.

Does Hike 2650 track my location or collect data?

No. There is no GPS, no account, no ads and no analytics. Your Health data never leaves your iPhone, and the map works offline. Read the full privacy policy.

Is this an official Pacific Crest Trail app?

No. Hike 2650 is an independent app inspired by the trail and the people who hike it. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by the Pacific Crest Trail Association or the U.S. Forest Service, and it is not a navigation tool. For real trail information and permits, visit pcta.org.
